The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development put forward by the United Nations in 2015 provides a global blueprint for dignity, peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and in the future.
With this technique, you get to know the targets behind the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and apply them to your own organization’s mission statement.

Sustainable Development Goals (2 minutes, EN)
Did you know that the UN sustainable development goals are a universal call to action that unites 193 countries around the world.
Inner Development Goals (5.5 minutes, EN)
Inner Development Goals (IDGs) is a blueprint of the capabilities, qualities and skills we need in order to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We want to educate, inspire and empower people to be a positive force for change in society and find a more purposeful way to look at our lives and the lives of the people around us.
To Work
- Create groups of max 5 people. Give each group an SDG Puzzle sheet and have them glue the 2 A3 sheets together.
- Ask them to collaboratively go through all 17 descriptions and find the right SDG for each. Encourage discussion on the meaning of these descriptions and the relevance to the team’s current business.
- Provide a mission statement (for instance copied from the Triodos Bank website) and have the participants connect the right SDG cards to elements of the mission statement.
- Do the same with your own organization’s mission statement.
- Ask participants which 3 SDGs are already well fulfilled.
- Ask participants which 3 deserve the most attention in the upcoming period to make a big leap forward towards a better future for our children and future generations. What can they do themselves to contribute to fulfilling these goals?
